More info on the Tax Free Weekend (Missouri's tax free weekend is the first weekend in August.) go to http://singleparents.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=singleparents&cdn=parenting&tm=25&gps=443_173_1020_406&f=00&tt=13&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//dor.mo.gov/tax/business/sales/taxholiday/school/

Smart Shopping Strategies for Tax Free Weekend:

Remember to use common sense when you shop. That's the best way to save even more more during tax free weekend. For example, compare prices online before you go shopping, and try to use coupons whenever you can.
In addition, don't make the mistake of buying anything you don't need just because of the sales tax holiday. After all, the sales tax rate in Missouri is only 4.225%, so that's the amount - plus any local sales tax, if applicable - that you would be saving by shopping during the tax free weekend. It's entirely possible that you'll find greater savings by shopping either before or after the actual sales tax holiday, so pay attention to sales circulars and advertisements for your favorite retailers.

What tips do you follow to help with back to school shopping?

  1. I take advantage of sale items & plan ahead, buy long jeans, shoes, etc. and use KMart's layaway plan to get items I will need in late fall or sometimes Christmas. I think the first few weeks of school the kid can wear shorts and short sleeve shirt he/she already has. Afterall, it is not a fashion show. :)
