How to Shop CVS

How to Shop CVS

This is a store I used to shop at a lot when I first started my couponing adventure.  I'm so excited they opened one up at The Lake!  Hope this helps you get started!!!

Extra Care Bucks (ECB’s): A CVS store coupon for a discount or amount off of your next purchase that prints at check out. They print at the bottom of your receipt. Pay attention that you don’t accidentally throw them away if you don’t keep your receipt. Also like cash they can be used on most things (excludes alcohol, tobacco, prescriptions and gift cards) sold at CVS. These are figured BEFORE other coupons are used so you can get a ECB for spending over $20 on a certain product and after manufacturer coupons only have to spend $10 out of pocket. Make usre you check and see what the limits are on the ECB’s. Sometimes they are pretty strict and other times not as much. Sometimes ECB’s are called CRT’s (Cash Register Tape) as well.

ExtraCare card: This is a FREE CVS store card that keeps track of your ECB’s and all rewards you earn. To use or receive ECB’s you must first scan your card (don’t forget!) You can apply for one online or ask in stores.

Reinventing Beauty Magazine: This is a magazine that costs $0.99 and is available in the HBA section of CVS. The magazine sometimes has both CVS and manufacturer coupons. If you can’t find the magazine, just look by the sale ads, other magazines or ask as sales associate.

Clip Free Coupon: Monthly discount deducted automatically at checkout when you use your ExtraCare card.

Green Bag Tag: These are credits you can earn toward FREE ECB’s. If you bring your own reusable bags, a plastic bag from another shopping trip or carry your items out & not use one of their plastic bags (hence the name Green-saving the earth). Doing so will let you received green bag tag credits. Scan your ExtraCare card, an item & then the green tag. Make sure you check the bottom of your receipt to make sure it shows up. It will tell you how many you still need to earn a free ECB. It starts at 4 and counts down. After you get to one your get an ECB! Then you start over again. This is much better than the $0.05 that some stores give you for reusing your bags.

Price Scanner: Price scan machines located at CVS stores that check the price of items and print CVS store coupons when your ExtraCare card is scanned.

CVS Store coupons: Like other store coupons these can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for huge savings! The only thing is you can only use ONE per transaction.

CVS coupons: These store coupons give you a discount when your total is a certain amount BEFORE ANY OTHER COUPONS. (Example: save $5 when you buy more than $25.)

Scan the CVS coupon machine when you FIRST arrive at CVS: You’ll want to scan your ExtraCare card at the coupon printing machine usually right inside the store. It prints out coupons and occasionally ECB’s!

Does it matter how coupons are handed to the cashier?  Yes...VERY important!  Hand them your ExtraCare card so they can scan it first, next the items you are purchasing, then CVS $ off transaction coupon (ex. $5 off $25), next CVS store coupons and or manufacturer coupons and last but not least your ECB's and or your  Green Bag Tag.

You can ONLY ONE coupon for B1G1 FREE deals: When items go on sale for buy 1 get 1 free you can ONLY USE 1 coupon. Technically you are buying 2 items but they allow only 1 coupon.

B1G1 Free CVS sale combined with B1G1 Free Coupon: This is a great way to get BOTH items FREE. You can use a B1G1 manufacturer coupon with a B1G1 CVS sale. Easy way to stock up!

B1G1 Free Manufacturer’s coupon: You CANNOT stack a B1G1manufacturer’s coupon AND a $/1 manufacturer’s coupon together for 2 items. They do not allow that at CVS!

Scan your Extra Care Bucks card: To get ECB’s you must use your ExtraCare card. You can only redeem them if & when you use your ExtraCare card.

Rolling ECB’s: You can use your ECB on other deals that generate more ECB. This terminology is referred to as “rolling”. But unlike Walgreens, CVS will allow you to “roll” your ECB’s. This means if you get an ECB for a certain brand of laundry soap you can use your ECB to buy that EXACT same laundry soap & you’ll get another ECB. ECB’s expire 4 weeks after you receive them so pay attention!

Rain Checks: CVS rain checks are like Walgreens (as in they NEVER expire!!) Ask for a rain check if the item is sold out and they’ll honor the ECB from the original sale!

Wanna earn more ECB? Earn 2% back with every in store purchase. They are issued quarterly (every 3 months). Earn 1 Extra Buck for every 2 prescriptions purchased in-store (love getting ECB for filling my scripts!!!)
